Experimental Performance Project, FRI 14 AUG 7:30PM Group A

Step into a fresh, offbeat fringe performance from our final year students, blending live performance and short film with a creative edge. Built from scratch with their own ideas, researcha nd collaboration.

These events mix live performance with short films, where the students are to take risks and explore their stage craft. Look out for a sleek, stripped-back tech setup, a bold artistic feel and loads of Monkey energy.

We are looking to develop one (or more!) of them beyond this point, and we need you! Our Experimental Performance audience is invited to feedback and comment on what they see, becoming part of the process of selection. We hope to unearth the next big thing, and we hope you can help us find it!

What happens when the fastest shootin’, best dressin’, whip crackin’, whiskey drinkin’, coolest hat-wearin’, dick swingin’, awesome horse-ownin’, sexy walkin’, bounty hunter in the west is confronted with someone else who understands what is means to hide their identity. Will finding a fellow lesbian on the trail lead to love or death?

Dancing Through The Fog by Strobe Studios Ltd (Harvey Bartholomew, Gary Gardner, Indiana Henderson, Luke Hobday & Amber Wood)

After giving a young woman an unknown substance at an underground rave ted watches the horrific consequences of his action unfold before his eyes; not only had he lost a friend but also lost his sense of reality. the guilt ridden young man is haunted by his actions and encounters the five stages of grief as masked figures before him! will he continue to run or will he accept his fate?

You have five minutes to escape. Escape what you ask? The strange funeral room you've landed in? The grip that your transphobic mother still holds on you? Your complicated relationship with your past self? How bout all three!

Blurred Lines by KingDawn Theatre (Lena Alós Fernández, Lorena Gillis and Ricardo Joseph)

Why is it that, in a country so “diverse,” with so many different cultures, you still find it so hard to be yourself?

Blurred Lines is a piece of “Aware Theatre” that explores themes of segregation and alienation. It examines how coming from a different land with a unique and nuanced cultural identity, and bringing that identity to a supposedly free nation that celebrates diversity, doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll fit in. It also explores how our identities can be shaped by societal and cultural norms, as well as by people’s expectations of what is considered acceptable in that society.

Project MKUltra by Lizard Brain (Joe Edmundson Foot, Mitch Emery, Elina Galvane, Daisy Granville, Stella Harford & Brooke Lawrence)

In the 50s and 60s, the CIA ran an illegal human experimentation program titled MKUltra with the goal of harnessing mind control. Sidney Gottlieb oversaw everything, from spiking to torture, and was never held accountable. With the use of verbatim text from CIA documents, Lizard Brain takes the true story of corruption, guilt and conspiracy and brings you on a bizarre, psychedelic trip
