10 Things to look out for in 2020 from Fourth Monkey

31st January 2020

This year, Fourth Monkey will be celebrating their ten-year anniversary!

In just ten years, we have gone from a vision by Artistic Director Steve Green to bring a greater range of voices to the theatre landscape to being a thriving drama school and actor training company open and accessible to any students who want to act, make, move and collaborate with us – something we are very proud of!

As we look ahead to the next decade of Fourth Monkey, we thought we would share a selection of highlights to look out for and to get excited about in 2020…

ONE – 10 Years of Fourth Monkey

Let’s start with an obvious one – our ten-year anniversary, which we will be officially marking in Autumn 2020! Keep an eye out for news of how we will be celebrating and how both our current Monkey cohort and our Monkey Alumni can get involved and help us toast to our first decade as Fourth Monkey…

TWO – Official BA Validation from Falmouth University

Thanks to our validation partners Falmouth University, Fourth Monkey’s 2 Year Rep training programme will grow and develop even further to become the BA (Hons) Acting Accelerated Degree from September 2020 – the perfect opportunity for any aspiring actors and creators to be trained, employable and industry-ready in two years, as well as official degree holders!

THREE – The Return of Fourth Monkey Ensemble

We will be launching a new project under Fourth Monkey Ensemble as part of our ten-year anniversary celebrations, In The Shadow Of Walls, which will follow in the footsteps of previous projects by featuring a cast made up of Monkey Alumni and bringing powerful, challenging and bold stories to life…

FOUR – First-Ever Regional Auditions

We are taking our audition panel out of London and are coming to you for the first time in 2020 as part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that accessibility starts at audition! We will be at Bilborough Sixth Form College in Nottingham on Saturday 29thFebruary for a FREE, full audition day – learn more and apply to audition today here.

FIVE – Amazing Alumni

Once a Monkey, always a Monkey! We love sharing and promoting the work our alumni create and collaborate with – check out our recent Q&A with 2018 graduate Calum Littley about life post-Monkey and keep an eye out for more Monkey Motivation from our alumni throughout the year…

SIX – Innovative Performances

We can’t wait to see what this year’s Year of the Monkey and 2 Year Rep cohorts create as we head into the second half of the year, culminating as always in the Camden Fringe season

SEVEN – Development Opportunities

Learn new ways to act, make, move and collaborate for 2020! Actors looking to hone their craft can try our range of Evolve Short Courses, offering everything from one-day Acting and Voice masterclasses to Weekend Intensive, 6 and 8-week short courses with renowned specialist Movement practitioners, and organisations looking to explore and develop new, more effective ways of communicating as a team can try the Monkey Business workshops for bespoke corporate training.

EIGHT – Open Day Opportunities

Come and explore the Monkey House (within reason!) and get a taste for our training on our upcoming Open Day, Saturday 28th March. You’ll get to take part in a range of workshops with our practitioners, plus put your questions to Steve Green and watch one of our Classical Season performances – a great way to sample actor training, Fourth Monkey-style!

NINE – Schools Outreach Offerings

As part our charitable outreach arm, we offer UK-based schools the chance to take part in free workshops, which are led by our alumni practitioners and give students the perfect opportunity to see whether Fourth Monkey training might be the right next step for them as well as trying something new, physical and collaborative!

TEN – Join us for our 2020 Intake!

…and finally, there is still time to apply to audition to join us in September 2020 and be part of our Class of 2022! Auditions across both the BA (Hons) Acting Accelerated Degree and the Year of the Monkey one year intensive training programme have ZERO audition fees (we’ve blazed a trail by deciding to abolish all audition fees in September 2019!) and prospective students will take part in a full audition day to get a real sense of the training we offer here at the Monkey House. Learn more about what to expect, how to prepare and audition dates available here.
