Fourth Monkey encourages students to commit themselves fully to their training and to concentrate on their development as an actor. However it is also important for them to absorb themselves in the wide offering of theatre and performance that London has to offer. We want students to enjoy being surrounded by like-minded creative people, as this is when the most exciting work is produced.
Below is more information about living and studying at Fourth Monkey.
We support the whole actor and our team is always on hand to help with all aspects of life as an acting student. Lines of communication are kept open, as a way to support students both with their development within the company and also life outside training. All information is treated as confidential.
We are an advocate for #time4change, a movement started by the Musical Theatre Academy to raise awareness in the performing arts sector of mental health issues and the stigma surrounding it. The movement has a clearly defined charter which companies, groups and theatres can sign up to promote in their various settings. There have been around 100 bodies/companies from the performing arts sector, both professional and educational, to sign up to promoting the charter. Fourth Monkey Actor Training Company is proud to be one of a handful of training centres to support and actively promote mental health awareness for our students.

Living in London can range from the astronomically expensive, to the surprisingly affordable; it’s just a matter of looking in the right places for the right property. For those who are new to renting and new to London, here are a few recommendations of areas that are very accessible to The Monkey House. Generally most of our students look around the areas near our training bases to save on travel.
Both the Year of the Monkey and the Two Year Rep programmes have been designed to allow time to work alongside the programme. There are plenty of jobs out there which meet the needs of almost any situation, by having varied and flexible working hours.
There are a lot of companies in London that actively hire actors/young people in training. For example, agencies or telesales companies that offer temp work are a great way to get varied, ad hoc, flexible work.
Below are some examples of these:
Fourth Monkey are based in north London, a vibrant area with plenty of arts establishments. Fees and Finance
Fourth Monkey believe that actor training should be for everyone. As such, we play our part in assisting our company members to raise the required funds to pay for their training in a responsible way.
With onsite fundraising assistance and events facilitated on behalf of our company members, we’re able to provide support in the task of raising finance to support training where it is required. There are also a variety of grants and bursaries available from local councils in hometowns or national arts funding bodies. We advise prospective students to contact these directly should funding be required.
Ultimately, the responsibility of funding any training is held by the individual but we will guide and support, as and where we can, prior to the acceptance of a place. Many of our students work flexible jobs around their training and we support them with these needs.
