Steven Green

Artistic Director

Steve is a writer, director and is the founder of Fourth Monkey. After graduating in 1994 he went onto work as an actor alongside such luminaries as Sir Derek Jacobi, Sir Anthony Sher, Timothy West, Gerard Butler and Richard O’Brien and also as a writer and director whilst actively working as a practitioner with actors in training. A diverse range of experience within the industry has enabled him a rich tapestry of both experiences and colleagues to draw upon to enliven and embolden the work Fourth Monkey produce today.

Having trained alongside the likes of David Harradine (Artistic Director Fevered Sleep) Jason Thorpe and Iain Lee by such practitioners as John Wright (Trestle, Told by an Idiot), Steve Tiller (The Wedding Collective), John Topping, Huw Thomas amongst others, Steve developed a clean and clear creative philosophy and later a ‘performance language’ of his own which is the foundation of all that is Fourth Monkey today.

Combined with his own invaluable training experiences the vision for Fourth Monkey has been borne out of years of working with and training actors at the formative stages of their careers and witnessing new professionals, no matter their age or life experience, often struggle for opportunities and acceptance within the industry. The vision for Fourth Monkey is to harness the energy and enthusiasm of creative talent entering the industry by offering them the platform to express and develop their talents collaboratively in a creative and forward thinking training environment. Steve believes wholeheartedly in the power of the ensemble and as such all Fourth Monkey embark on has ensemble at it’s core.

His directorial credits range from classics to new pieces of writing, all regardless, delivered with a signature style that is often uncompromising and always intended to push convention and challenge both the audience and the actor.

He looks to define the visceral ensemble work of Fourth Monkey as it continues to place itself firmly on the contemporary theatre map as both a leading and significant actor training and production company.
